SHANGHAI, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Honeywell Aerospace has brought advanced touchscreen technology to business flight decks, the group announced on Friday.

Honeywell's DU-1310 touchscreen allows pilot to access flight plans and communication resources in the same way they use smartphones and tablets, said Honeywell Aerospace Asia Pacific.

"Pilots today expect the same high-tech functionality in the cockpit that they use in their everyday lives. Touchscreens are at the top of that list," said Jeff Merdich, vice president on Cockpit Systems with Honeywell Aerospace.

"Much like Honeywell's advanced technologies in-flight Wi-Fi, we believe in giving pilots the same experience as they have at home or in the office," he added.

Honeywell's DU-1310 touchscreen received a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) technical standard order in September.

Previously, pilots performed the same operations with a mouse or joystick.

Touch screens significantly improve operational efficiency on the flight deck, with faster navigation through commands and data, according to Honeywell Aerospace.

By using a touchscreen, pilots can cut in half the time required to input data and control cockpit functions, it said.
