NAIROBI, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan record league champions Gor Mahia FC revealed playing nine-time English title winners, Everton FC in an international friendly inspired them to reclaim the domestic crown this season.

Gor wrapped the 2017 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) with four games to spare last month for their 16th title and will represent their country at the 2018 CAF Champions League.

The Kenyan giants fell 1-2 to Everton at the National Stadium in Dar-es-Salaam on July 13 having won the right to play the struggling English Premier League side by lifting the first-ever SportPesa Super Cup in the same country on July 5.

Gor British head coach, Dylan Kerr, admitted on Friday their performance against the famous English side motivated his team to reclaim the title they lost to bitter rivals Tusker FC last year having won the trophy in the preceding three seasons in a row.

"The exposure was good for the team and we want to tell Everton that the next time we get a chance to play you, we will win by a bigger margin," the Gor boss told Everton legend, Leon Osman who left Nairobi on Friday morning after a three-day visit to the country.

"I'm glad the friendly match in Tanzania where Everton played Gor Mahia FC inspired the players to go on and win the league and we hope there will be more friendly matches in the future as we also seek to learn more from you guys," Osman, who retired from Everton last year having played for the Blues for 16 years responded.
