Dozens of cyclists fail to continue Tour de Singkarak race

JAKARTA, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Hard route amid tougher competition has caused dozens of cyclists end their race in the international race of Tour de Singkarak in West Sumatra province of Indonesia, committee said on Friday.

A total of 35 cyclists, including 3 from Iran in Group of Tabriz Shahrdary and 1 from Indonesia, has decided not to continue the race which enter the seventh stage on Friday, data from the committee revealed.

Still, 73 other cyclists from 19 teams continue competing in the race.

"We have to be smart to get the best achievement," Indonesian cyclist from KFC Cycling team Muhammad Imam Afirin was quoted by Antara state's news agency as saying.

The racers will pass a 112km route in the seventh stage and enjoy beautiful scenery.

The Tour the Singkarak race with 1,097km in distance kicked off on November 18 and is scheduled to finish on November 26.
