SHIJIAZHUANG, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The administrative committee of Xiongan New Area has signed a deal with Internet giant Tencent to deepen cooperation in financial technology.
Tencent set up a "financial technology lab" in Xiongan Thursday, and a branch in Xiongan in September.
The two sides will work together to explore areas such as big data and cloud computing to create a "town of the future."
Tencent also launched a campaign in Xiongan using the Internet to promote art education in the area, with the Tencent Foundation to donate 20 million yuan (3 million U.S. dollars) to help with related projects for teenagers.
China announced plans in April to establish the Xiongan New Area, a new economic zone about 100 kilometers southwest of Beijing in Hebei Province. It covers Hebei's Xiongxian, Rongcheng and Anxin counties.
