WASHINGTON, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. military has distributed nearly 100,000 pounds (some 45,000 kg) of turkey to feed deployed troops overseas for Thanksgiving, local media reported Thursday.

American news channel Cable News Network (CNN) cited the Pentagon to report the U.S. troops in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait and Jordan will dine on 98,820 pounds of turkey and over 10,000 pounds (about 4,500 kg) of stuffing for Thanksgiving.

Other items including beef, ham, shrimp, marshmallows, eggnog, as well as dessert such as pies, cakes and cookies, are on the Pentagon's shopping list, CNN said.

On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump pardoned the national Thanksgiving turkey Drumstick in White House's Rose Garden, following a tradition in honor of the holiday.

Thanksgiving, a national holiday in the United States, is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the country, with turkey as the most common main dish for dinner at the festival.
