SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- South Korea could possibly halt next year's spring war games with the United States in the PyeongChang Winter Olympic and Paralympic period, Yonhap news agency reported Thursday.

"Suspending the (South) Korea-U.S. military exercise during the (Winter) Olympic period is one of options that can be reviewed," an unnamed official with the presidential Blue House was quoted by Yonhap as saying.

The PyeongChang Winter Olympic was scheduled to last from Feb. 9 to Feb. 25 next year at the namesake city in the country's eastern province of Gangwon. The Paralympic Games would follow from March 9 to March 18.

The South Korea-hosted winter sports event was widely forecast to coincide with the U.S.-South Korea spring war games as the joint military exercises tended to kick off in mid-March every year and last by the end of April.
