TRIPOLI, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Wednesday welcomed adoption of amendment formula of the political agreement by the Libyan eastern-based House of Representatives (Parliament).
"UNSMIL welcomes the decision adopted by the House of Representatives to accept the consensual formula of amending the Libyan Political Agreement, which was presented by the Mission to the House of Representatives and the High Council of State," the mission said.
The parliament on Tuesday approved a formula of amendment of the UN-sponsored peace agreement proposed by the head of the UN Mission, Ghassan Salame, a week ago.
The UN mission has recently sponsored dialogue meetings in Tunisia between representatives of the Libyan political parties in order to amend the political agreement.
The UN-proposed amendment that the Parliament approved states that "the Presidential Council and the Government will continue to carry out their functions until parliamentary and presidential elections are held, while the Presidential Council shall consist of only one president and two deputies."
