WARSAW, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Poland will receive PLN 1.8 billion (430 million euros) in EU funds for the country's sewage-treatment system upgrades in 31 cities, Polish Press Agency reported Wednesday.

The biggest project, modernization of two sewage plants in Warsaw, will involve more than PLN 1.2 billion (280 million euros), of which some 150 million euros will be covered by EU funds. The upgrades will allow the connection of 5,700 new users to the city's sewage system.

Major sewage projects are also planned in Poznan, Radom, Lublin and Wroclaw, while smaller upgrades (under PLN 100 million, or 23.6 million euros) will start in 26 other Polish cities including Krakow, the second largest city in Poland.

EU funding for the projects will come from the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme 2014-2020.

The main aim of the upgrades is the expansion of municipal sewage systems to reach new users.
