Macao cultural industries service revenue grows 9.7 pct in 2016

MACAO, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Macao's cultural industries service revenue registered a growth of 9.7 percent year-on-year to 6.86 billion patacas (about 854 million U.S. dollars) in 2016, the special administrative region's statistic service said Wednesday.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 1,913 organizations were operating in the four domains of cultural industries in Macao in 2016, namely Creative design, Cultural exhibitions and performances, Art collection and Digital media, representing an increase of 200 year-on-year.

Number of persons engaged rose by 7.7 percent to 11,003, and employees expenditure went up by 9.3 percent to 1.71 billion patacas (about 213 million dollars). Gross Value Added that measures the sector's contribution to the economy increased by 8.5 percent year-on-year, accounting for 0.6 percent of total Gross Value Added of all economic activities of Macao in 2016.

DSEC also said that service revenue and gross value added of digital media constituted the largest shares among the four domains of cultural industries, comprising 50.6 percent and 57.4 percent of the respective total. There were 4,812 persons engaging in digital media in 2016, also the highest among the four domains.
