TAIPEI, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- A majority of Taiwanese firms are feeling the pressure from a talent shortage and having difficulty attracting professionals, a survey showed Wednesday.
About 66 percent of the 949 respondents said their companies have problems with recruiting skilled employees, especially in the medical services, agriculture and information technology, due to rapid development of artificial intelligence and biomedicine, according to the survey released by local online human resource platform 1111 Job Bank.
A high personnel turnover rate, talent shortage and low starting salaries are considered the top three challenges facing the island's job market.
An annual report published by the Switzerland-based International Institute for Management and Development earlier this week also found that Taiwan is lagging behind in attracting and retaining talent among 63 economies worldwide.
Official data showed that the number of Taiwanese working overseas had more than doubled in 2015 from 2005, with nearly 60 percent of them choosing to work on the Chinese mainland, partly due to higher pay.
About 40 percent of the 1,017 Taiwanese respondents said they are willing to work on the Chinese mainland, up 9 percentage points year on year and marking an eight-year high, according to the annual survey on cross-Strait relations released by Taiwanese newspaper United Daily News Monday.
