KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- A Taliban local commander and four more militants were killed during airstrikes in the northern Kunduz province on Tuesday night, an army spokesman in northern region, Ghulam Hazrat Karimi, said Wednesday.

"The aircraft targeted a Taliban base in Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz province last night, killing Mullah Jawid, a Taliban key commander along with his four more fighters," Karimi told Xinhua.

Two more militants sustained injuries in the raids, the official added.

Taliban militants have yet to make comments.

Afghan forces have speeded up military operations against armed insurgents in several parts of the country to dismantle militants' hideouts and gain more grounds ahead of winter.
