TIRANA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Albania's Prime Minister, Edi Rama has called on the European Union (EU) member states to support country's drive towards EU accession, Albanian premier's press office confirmed on Tuesday.

According to the premier's press office, Rama sent letters to all Prime Ministers of the EU member states in which he made a summary of the steps undertaken by Albania to fulfill the five key priorities set by European Commission as a condition for the start of accession talks.

Rama also assured his counterparts on the commitment of Albanian government to take forward the opening of negotiations with EU. He informed the 28 Premiers of EU member states about the progress reached by Albania in the fight against drug traffic and organized crime.

On Monday, the official website of PM's cabinet also published the letter that Rama sent to French Premier Edouard Philippe in which Rama sought France support to Albania's EU bid.

According to Rama, integration is what all Albanian citizens, regardless of their political beliefs, have looked forward to for the better part of 20 years.

Rama closed his letter, dated Nov. 16, saying he hoped the 28 member states would support Albania while moving towards the next phase of its development which would lead the country towards full accession and membership in the European family.

Rama said in an interview that he had decided to take such initiative and address a letter to prime ministers of EU member states in order to introduce them to the current situation of Albania and country's need for further support in such path.

Rama's letter comes at a time when Albania expects the EU to open negotiations talks in early 2018.
