WARSAW, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Poland fully observes EU law and it has been fulfilling the European Court of Justice's (ECJ) rulings on the Bialowieza Forest, said Polish Environment Minister Jan Szyszko on Tuesday, commenting on the ECJ's Monday ruling ordering Poland to stop logging in the forest.

The ECJ also said Poland could face fines of 100,000 euros a day if it failed to comply.

"So far, Poland has always been taking actions that are in line with the EU law," the environment minister said.

"We respect the EU's law related to the Natura 2000 areas as well as the birds and habitats directives and we also fully implement the Court's recommendations", Szyszko stressed.

On Monday, the ECJ upheld its July logging ban in the pristine forest's protected areas except for activities aimed to ensure public safety. Both the European Commission, which motioned to the ECJ for the ban, and Poland, have demanded a clearer definition of "public safety".

Poland has been given 15 days to respond to the ECJ's decision and present detailed actions it has taken to implement the ruling.
