Survey shows current president likely to win Tunisian presidential election

TUNIS, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- In the case of a presidential election, the current Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi could benefit from 21.5 percent of the voting intentions, according to a recent survey released Tuesday by Sigma Conseils specialized in opinion surveys in Tunisia.

According to the monthly political barometer, the current Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed has given up his second position to former President Moncef Marzouki, whose voting intention has risen from 11.8 percent to 15.5 percent.

The voting intentions reached 10.4 percent in favor of Youssef Chahed.

With regard to the abstention rate, this survey shows that the rate of abstention would be 69.2 percent in the municipal elections scheduled for March 25, 2018, 55 percent in the legislative elections and 42.6 percent in the presidential election.
