DAMASCUS, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stressed cooperation with Russia during an unannounced meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in the Russian city of Sochi, state-run news agency SANA reported on Tuesday.
Russia's military and economic support to Syria has achieved important results in various fields, such as humanitarian relief and military gains, Assad was quoted by SANA as saying.
Damascus is ready to hold dialogues with all those interested in solving Syria's six years of crisis, Assad said.
According to SANA, Assad informed Putin about his assessment of the current situation in Syria and political solutions, including the role of the United Nations in the reconciliation process.
Putin said Assad's visit aimed to coordinate the stance of Moscow and Damascus ahead of a tripartite meeting of Russia, Turkey and Iran, according to the SANA report.
The Syrian president is ready to work with those who want peace and stability in Syria, Putin was quoted by SANA as saying.
He also congratulated Assad on the military victories achieved in Syria, stressing that the Syrian people are close to triumph over terrorism.
Putin will meet with his Iranian and Turkish counterparts in his residence in Sochi on Wednesday.
Foreign ministers of Russia, Iran and Turkey are expected to meet on Sunday in Turkey's resort city of Antalya to discuss the Syrian crisis.
It is Assad's second visit to Russia since the Syrian war broke out six years ago.
On Oct. 21, 2015, Assad made a declared trip to Moscow, during which he discussed with Putin the Russian military campaign against the Islamic State and other militant groups in Syria.
