TOKYO, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks advanced Tuesday morning as investor sentiment was bolstered by strong showings overnight on U.S. and European bourses and the yen softening against the U.S. dollar.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 226.62 points, or 1.02 percent, from Monday to 22,488.38.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 15.23 points, or 0.87 percent, at 1,774.88.
Oil and coal product, chemical and machinery-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
