JAKARTA, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Sales of cement in the first 10 months rose in Indonesia as the building of the country's mega infrastructure projects accelerated, the cement association said on Monday.

The sales of the cement products from January to October for domestic and overseas markets grew 8.8 percent to 56.47 million tons from a year earlier.

For domestic market, the cumulative sales of the cement by October expanded 7.3 percent to 54.19 million tons from a year earlier, Chairman of the association Widodo Santoso said.

"Acceleration of the construction of infrastructure projects has raised demand for cement," Santoso said.

Export of cement grew 38 percent to 273,000 tons in October from a year ago, he said.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo who came into office in 2014 has carried out massive infrastructure projects across the archipelagic nation to make the economy more efficient and create more jobs as he aims to pursue over 7 percent economic growth at the end of his five-year tenure.
