RABAT, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Moroccan security services have seized 2.8 tons of cocaine and 111 tons of cannabis resin between January and October 2017, local media reported on Saturday.

In early October, Moroccan announced the seizure of a record 2.5 tons of cocaine, after busting an international trafficking network active in several cities in the north African kingdom.

Citing data from Morocco's foreign ministry, Alyaoum24.com news site said Moroccan police also 0.6 kg of heroin and a record 4.13 million of psychotropic tablets.

According to the 2016 report by the UN's Office on Drugs and Crime, Morocco is the world's largest cannabis resin harvester. Given its position at the crossroad of Africa, Europe and the Middle East, the country is considered a key route in international drug trafficking.
