SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Tesla Semi, the company's first electric semi tractor-trailer, along with a new version of its first sports car, the Roadster were unveiled on Thursday at the Tesla Design Center in Hawthorne, California.

CEO Elon Musk said the Semi is capable of traveling 500 miles on an electric charge and will cost less than a diesel semi considering fuel savings, lower maintenance and other factors. The semi also equipped with high technology. The Enhanced Autopilot helps avoid collisions. The driver position is centered with maximum visibility and control, the low center of gravity offers rollover protection.

According to the data released by Tesla, The Semi with four independent motors which can provide "maximum" power and acceleration while requiring the "lowest" energy cost per mile. It can accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour within 20 second with full load of 80,000 pounds. Musk added that Tesla plans a worldwide network of solar-powered "megachargers" that could get the trucks back up to 400 miles of range after only 30 minutes.

Tesla's new roadster will be the fastest mass production car ever made. Musk claimed the base model will do 0 to 60 acceleration in 1.9 seconds, climb from 0 to 100 mph in 4.2 seconds. Though Musk didn't confirm its top speed, He hinted that it was "above 250 mph". With a 200 kilowatt hour battery pack, the New Tesla Roadster will have a range of 620 miles on a single charge.

The production of Tesla Semi is expected to begin in 2019, and the new Tesla Roadster in 2020.
