China wins four golds on first day of taekwondo China Open

XI'AN, China, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Four Chinese players won the titles on the first match day of 2017 World Taekwondo Federation China Open here on Friday.

In the men's 74kg final, Ren Ke, who lost seven points at the beginning, made a comeback win over his compatriot Shi Wenhao 41-39 in extra time.

Zhou Runjian beat Li Guoxun at men's 63kg final by advantage when the duel is drawing at the end of extra time.

Zuo Ju beat her teammate Tan Xueqin 4-3 in the women's 46kg final.

Wenren Yuntao claimed the title by a landslide 27-0 victory in the women's 49kg final.

In the men's 80kg final, Jaysen Ishida from the United States triumphed over Yang Zongye from Chinese Taipei 19-12.

The China Open, an accumulating points tournament of 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, has attracted 500 taekwondo players including China's Zhao Shuai and Zheng Shuyin, the winners of 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

"Given the fast-growing taekwondo population in China, this China Open will serve to upgrade the quality of taekwondo in China and worldwide at the grassroots and elite levels," said Choue Chungwon, the chairman of the World Taekwondo Federation.

According to statistics, by 2017, the number of taekwondo fans and trainers in China has exceeded 10 million, and it is still increasing each year. By the end of 2015, there has been over 4,000 taekwondo gyms across China.
