AMMAN, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Wednesday hosted a meeting for the international coalition to fight the terrorist Islamic State with the participation of representatives of 27 countries and international agencies.

Stressing on Jordan's keenness to host the meeting and continue the fight against terrorism, Nawwaf Al Tal, advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, highlighted the success achieved against the terrorist group in Syria and Iraq and the liberation of some 6.6 million Syrians and Iraqis from their control.

He also stressed the key successes in the digital sphere against the terrorist group.

The official said the liberation of areas from the IS needs to be followed by reconstruction in the liberated areas, calling for political solutions to the conflicts in the Middle East.

He added that a political process should start in Syria after the achievements against the IS group.

Bert McGurk, U.S. envoy to the anti-IS coalition, voiced appreciation for Jordan's efforts and for hosting the meeting.

He said that IS lost control of 95 per cent of territories it used to control in Syria and Iraq, highlighting the coalition's efforts in preventing the finance of the terrorists and their influx into the two countries.

He added that the military achievements need to be followed by diplomatic and political efforts.
