WINDHOEK, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's U20 national football team started training here on Wednesday for the upcoming 2017 Confederation of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) championships to be held in Zambia from Dec. 6-16, despite the unavailability of funds for the team to travel and participate in the event.
Namibia Football Association Secretary General Barry Rukoro said that 30 players have been summoned for the training camp.
According to Rukuro, the association is still waiting for response for the funds from the Sports Ministry for the trip to Zambia, where Namibia have been pitted in Group C with Angola, Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
Rukuro said the matches will be played at the Arthur Davies and Nkana stadiums in Kitwe and Namibia will face Angola in their opening game.
The group stage will end on Dec. 12, followed by a rest day, with the semifinals to be staged at the Arthur Davies Stadium on Dec. 14. The third-place play-off and the final will move to the Levy Mwanawasa in Ndola on Dec. 16.
In 2016, Namibia's U20 team did not participate in tournament due to the lack of funds.
