JOHANNESBURG, Nov.15 (Xinhua) -- The South African government on Wednesday urged its citizens in Zimbabwe to be vigilant and cautious.

Clayson Monyela, the spokesperson for the Department of International Cooperation (Dirco) told Xinhua in a telephone interview from Pretoria said his department will issue a press statement "shortly."

He said South Africans in Zimbabwe need to be vigilant and cautious.

"Our advice would be that whoever wants to travel to Zimbabwe should continue to do that but please maintain regular contact with our embassy there," said Monyela.

Armored carriers cordoned off Zimbabwe's Presidential seat of power and Parliament Building in the capital on Wednesday after the military announced it had taken over control of all government institutions.
