TUNIS, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Tunisian Assembly of People's Representatives (ARP), or parliament, on Tuesday elected the new president of the Independent Higher Authority for Elections (ISIE) after four failed sessions.

Mohamed Mansri took the vacancy since the resignation of his predecessor Chafik Sarsar last May by winning 115 votes, surpassing the required majority of 109 votes in favor.

Originally from Sidi Bouzid, a governorate in the center of the country, Mansri integrated into the regional office of the ISIE in Sidi Bouzid during 2011-2014.

In January 2017, the 43-year-old lawyer was elected member of the ISIE national office representing the body of lawyers. He has three children.

The first challenge for the new president of the ISIE is to organize the next municipal elections, scheduled for 25 March, 2018, after being initially set for December 2017.
