TRIPOLI, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Dozens of demonstrators on Tuesday protested outside the Libyan parliament in the eastern city of Tobruk to demand the dismissal of Omar Al-Bar'asi, head of the Audit Bureau, accusing him of financial and administrative corruption.

"Dozens of citizens gathered since the morning, demanding the deputies to hold a formal session to discuss financial and administrative corruption by the head of the Audit Bureau, and work on quickly vote to choose an alternative head of the bureau," a security officer of the parliament told Xinhua.

"The demonstrators were allowed to protest, as they were peacefully expressing their demands. None of them provoked riots or chaos in front of the parliament building," the officer said, preferring not to be named.

Omar Al-Bar'asi was appointed by the eastern-based parliament at the end of 2014, replacing Khaled Shakshak, head of the Bureau in Tripoli. However, Shakshak did not comply with the decision and remains in his post under the authority of UN-backed government.

Libya is struggling to make a democratic transition with two rival parliaments and governments in the east and the west, despite signing a UN-sponsored peace agreement by the political parties and appointment of the Government of National Accord.
