Host Indonesia to intensify use of sport science for Asian Games

JAKARTA, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Youth and sport ministry of Indonesia would boost appliance of sport science in preparation for Asian Games in an effort to improve the athletes' capability and capacity.

Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sport Imam Nahrawi on Tuesday installed a new deputy for improvement of sport achievement named only Mulyana, and asked him to immediately apply sport science among the country's athletes who will compete in the 18th Asian Games next year.

"Sport science is an important thing toward Asian Games, and I think Professor Muyana fully understands on it. Professor Mulyana has strong knowledge on that. And coordination with campus can be undertaken soon," Minister Nahrawi said at the Youth and Sport Ministry.

Nahrawi also asked the senior official to strengthen and accelerate coordination with the committee of the Asian Games, management of each sport and all other stakeholders.

The minister stressed that the major task of Mulyana is to step up achievement of the athletes in the the Asian Games.

Responding on the request, Mulyana convinced the minister, saying that there are many sport science departments in each university in the country with its own advantages.

"For instance, the state university of Jakarta has advantage in nutrition," he said.

Indonesia has targeted to post between the 10th to the 8th place in the upcoming Asian Games with 15 gold medals.

Indonesian athletes are to compete in all 40 stages of sports in the regional sport event that will be played in the country's capital and Palembang, the provincial capital of South Sumatra from august 18 to Sept. 2, 2018.
