SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- U.S. ride-sharing company Lyft announced Monday an unprecedented plan to expand its ridesharing service for the first time beyond its home country into Canada.

Lyft said on its official website that it will launch its passenger service in Toronto, the largest city north of the border, during the upcoming holiday season.

The ride-hailing service says it is recruiting drivers starting Monday in Toronto, promising to offer a 25 percent Power Driver Bonus on all rides for the first three months.

Lyft, a transportation network company based in San Francisco in the U.S. state of California, is an arch rival of another U.S. ride-hailing giant, Uber, which is said to have 40 million customers worldwide.

Lyft was valued at 7.5 billion U.S. dollars as of April in 2017, with a reported 18.7 million rides a month.
