AMMAN, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Sunday called on the international community to increase its aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNWRA).

Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi made the remarks at a meeting with the UNWRA Commissioner General Pierre Kraenbuehl, during which he stressed on the need for more aid to enable the agency to better serve the Palestinians.

He said it was important to help the agency overcome its challenges and tackle its annual budget deficits to enable it to continue to provide education and health services.

Kraenbuehl voiced appreciation to Jordan's support to the agency at all levels.

The commissioner called on governments, donors and stakeholders to "keep on supporting UNWRA to complete its mission."

"I expect our members to come forward with additional support, for it is vital to continue to improve the situation of the Palestinian refugees, and we cannot accomplish our mission without them," he added.
