LJUBLJANA, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Incumbent Slovenian President Borut Pahor won Sunday's presidential election to secure a second consecutive term in office.
Pahor won 53 percent of the vote defeating his challenger, Kamnik Mayor Marjan Sarec, in the run-off, as the turnout was at just over 41 percent, the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) reported quoting the National Electoral Commission.
Pahor will be sworn in on Dec. 22, starting serving a new five-year term the next day.
In his first address after the election at the official press center in Ljubljana, Pahor thanked voters for their "faith in democracy", in particular those who voted for him, pledging to do his best that those who did not cast their vote today "would believe in democracy" too.
Pahor also congratulated Sarec on winning nearly 47 percent of the vote, which he said was a result deserving to be applauded.
