CAIRO, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia is keen to boost security, economic and trade cooperation with Egypt, said Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed in a statement in the Egyptian capital Cairo on Sunday.
Chahed's statement came following his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and ahead of convening the 16th session of the Joint Egyptian-Tunisian Higher Committee with his Egyptian counterpart Sherif Ismail.
"Tunisia is looking forward to enhancing security cooperation with Egypt through a joint committee that is scheduled to meet late November to discuss joint efforts in fighting terrorism," the premier said.
Being neighboring Arab states of Libya, Egypt and Tunisia, in addition to Algeria, closely coordinate positions and push for dialogue among rival Libyan factions to reach a political settlement in the war-torn North African country.
Chahed highlighted the significance of coordination between the two Arab countries to help reach political settlements to conflicts in the Arab region.
"Cairo also plays an important role at the Arab and regional levels," said the Tunisian premier, noting his country condemns terrorist attacks that are meant to undermine Egypt's security and stability.
Chahed continued to say that Tunisia and Egypt face similar challenges in boosting development and economic reform as well as fighting terrorism and extremism, urging for further coordination between the two countries and collective cooperation of international efforts in this regard.
Meanwhile, the two prime ministers witnessed in Cairo the signing of a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding between both countries in the cabinet headquarters in Cairo.
The 16th session of the Joint Egyptian-Tunisian Higher Committee was attended by a number of ministers representing both sides and 18 representatives of Tunisian companies, discussing cooperation in various fields.
