YANGON, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities are working on starting the operation of cable car service at a well-known pilgrimage and tourist site of Kyaiktiyo pagoda, also known as Golden Rock, in southeastern Mon state in January next year, official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Saturday.

The very first cable car service in the country will run with 43 cars, each with the capacity of maximum eight persons and the journey will take about 10 minutes running from Yathe mountain to the Kyaiktiyo pagoda.

Each trip will cost 2,000 kyats for local travellers and 5 U.S. dollars for foreigners, respectively.

Jointly developed by a local company and a South-Korean company, the Sky Asia Co., the project will be operated on 13.5 acres (5.46 hectares) of land within Kyaiktiyo Wildlife Sanctuary.

Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, a small one built on the top of a 1,100-meter high granite boulder covered with gold leaves pasted on by devotees, is one of the well-known pilgrimage sites in the country.
