WARSAW, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Poland has decided to join the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) in the field of defense within the EU. On Monday, around 20 other EU member states will sign the declaration, Polish Press Agency (PAP) reported Friday.

"We will be part of this project," a Polish diplomat who wanted to remain anonymous told PAP.

Ceremonial signing of the declaration at a Monday joint meeting of EU's foreign and defense ministers is the last formal step before PESCO's official launch during the EU's December summit.

PESCO is intended to lead to deeper military cooperation within the EU, project financing, development of military technology and strengthening of the EU's defense industry.

For a long time, Poland hesitated to join the project, pointing to possible duplication of NATO and EU efforts.
