BEIRUT, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- The International Support Group for Lebanon (ISG) called Friday on its member states to work to stabilize the regional situation following the resignation of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri.

Philippe Lazzarini, the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, made the remarks after meeting with Lebanon's President Michel Aoun.

Lazzarini, speaking on behalf of the group, issued a plea that Lebanon "continue to be shielded from tensions in the region."

He requested that member states "exert efforts to control the situation," affirming its support for Lebanon's stability and Aoun's stance.

Aoun reminded the group of "international agreements that foster relations between states, and the immunity that they provide to their agents."

He also briefed the representatives on measures being taken to strengthen national unity, and maintain a stable security and economic environment in the country during "this delicate phase of Lebanon's history."

The ISG, bringing together representatives of China, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Britain and the United States, as well as the European Union and the Arab League, was established in 2013 to help Lebanon's state institutions and military deal with the influx of refugees from neighboring Syria, as well as with security incidents linked to the Syrian war.
