LONDON, Nov. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- People around the world smashed a series of various world records to celebrate Guinness World Records Day on Thursday, the famous London based organization Guinness World Records said.

In China, the young contortionist Liu Teng successfully challenged the Guinness World Records title again by renewing the previous record for the fastest time to travel 20 meters in a contortion roll that had been kept for four years with an amazing result of 15.54 seconds.

As a traditional Chinese acrobatic, contortion can be traced back to the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period.

Contortion requires long-time hard training, and has high requirements on contortionists' physical qualifications and artistic performance.

Liu Teng's contortion performance is visually graceful and breathtaking by exceeding the limits of human body, and her current challenge added a highlight to the 2017 Guinness World Records Day, and made the Chinese traditional acrobatics the focus of the whole world again.

Richard Browning, founder and chief test pilot of Gravity Industries, soared into the record books with the brand-new Guinness World Records title for the fastest speed in a body-controlled jet engine power suit.

On a dramatic day at Lagoona Park, Reading, Browning achieved a speed of 32.02 mph (51.53 km/h) on his third and final timed attempt before mistiming a turn and dropping into the lake.

"I am delighted we have set the record, and I have no doubt that this is just the beginning – I really think we can go on and smash it. I’m very proud indeed to be a part of Guinness World Records Day, it is a pleasure and a privilege to have our unique creation recognized and celebrated all round the world," Richard said.

In the USA, GWR Day favourites the Harlem Globetrotters have reached yet new heights with Thunder Law achieving the record for the highest upward basketball shot with an impressive 15.26 meters. The globetrotters now hold a hugely impressive 17 Guinness World Records titles.

Besides, Yuuki Yoshinaga from Japan smashed the previous record for the most football rolls from eye to eye in one minute with a total of 189, demonstrating incredible skill and control, while Swedish social media star Therese Lingdren baking her way to success achieving the record for the largest vegan cake, a semolina cake, weighing in at 462.4 kg.

Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday said: "Guinness World Records Day unites people across the planet from all walks of life, all of whom have one common goal – to be Officially Amazing! Whether you're spinning the largest hula hoop or building and flying a real-life Iron Man suit, Guinness World Records Day recognizes and celebrates the achievements of anyone dedicated enough to be the best."

Launched to celebrate the day in 2004 when Guinness World Records became the world's bestselling copyright book, this year's celebration will see upwards of 600,000 people around the world attempting to secure their place in the history books.
