LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Two persons including the attacker were killed and five personnel of Border Police Force sustained injuries as a suicide car bomb targeted a police checkpoint outside Helmand's provincial capital Lashkar Gah in southern Afghanistan on Friday, a Border Police official in the province, Zahir Gul said.

"A terrorist riding an explosive-laden car was attempting to enter a police checkpoint but was identified by police and detonated his device outside the post, killing himself and a policeman, and injuring five more police personnel," Gul told Xinhua.

The official also blamed the enemies of peace, a reference to the Taliban militants, but the armed outfit has yet to claim responsibility.

Notorious for growing poppy and militancy, the restive Helmand province has been regarded as Taliban hotbed in the militancy-plagued Afghanistan.
