GUANGZHOU, Nov.9 (Xinhua) -- Fabio Cannavaro will begin his second coaching spell at Guangzhou Evergrande as the defending Chinese Super League champions announced on Thursday that they have inked a five-year deal with the Italian.

2006 World Cup Champion Cannavaro has been linked with the spot after Luiz Felipe Scolari quit the CSL powerhouse. The former Juventus defender temporarily replaced Marcello Lippi as Evergrande coach at the end of 2014, but was sacked after just six months on the job.

Cannavaro took over the Chinese first division club Tianjin Quanjian in 2016 and lead them to the top flight. Last season, Cannavaro steered the newly-promoted squad to third place in the league and was nominated for coach of the year.

"Evergrande's long-term plan attracts me and I am pleased to work with them. We will cultivate young talents, as many as possible, in the future," Cannavaro said of his plans for the club.
