COPENHAGEN, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tivoli Gardens, Denmark's landmark amusement park in central Copenhagen, opened on Wednesday a newly built business complex that houses restaurants and food hall with dozens of outlets.
Tivoli Corner houses two restaurants, a cafe, a design store, 21 new rooms for an existing hotel, and Tivoli Food Hall with 16 quality outlets run by some of Denmark's most recognized restaurateurs.
It is Tivoli's largest single investment ever and involves a building project worth hundreds of millions of Danish kroner.
Tivoli Corner and Food Hall will be a significant addition to both Tivoli's and Copenhagen's food scenes, offering quality meals and drinks in a unique and informal setting, according to Tivoli CEO Lars Liebst.
"We have been working on developing year-round activities in Tivoli for many years. With Tivoli Corner, we have revitalized Tivoli and the area near Bernstorffsgade by uniting Tivoli and the city in a completely new way," Liebst said at a press briefing.
"Over the past 25 years, food has become culture, and shopping has become an integral part of our contemporary culture of experiences. Tivoli must continue to join in this development, and we expect Tivoli Corner to play an important role in Copenhagen," he added.
Tivoli is one of Denmark's most popular tourist attractions and welcomed 4.6 million visitors in 2016. Its business area spans rides, music, stage performances, restaurants and food stands and hotel management. Its staff of 3,700 generates an annual turnover of over 1 billion kroner (155.8 million U.S. dollars).
