PHNOM PENH, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Xiong Bo delivered a lecture on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to about 120 students at the University of Cambodia here on Wednesday.

Xiong said during the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Beijing about two weeks ago, the CPC added Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to its Constitution.

"It serves as a guide to action in promoting socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era," he said during the two-hour lecture.

The ambassador said Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is rich in content, covering all aspects such as politics, economy, rule of law, science and technology, culture, education, people's well-being, society, ecological civilization, national security, national reunification, military, diplomacy and party-building.

Xi's thought makes eight fundamental issues clear, including the overarching objectives for upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, as well as the direction, model, and driving force of development, and the strategic steps, external conditions and political guarantees, he said.

Also, Xiong introduced China's Belt and Road Initiative and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to the Cambodian students, saying that Cambodia is the key country and an important partner for China in carrying out the initiative.

Speaking about the Sino-Cambodian relationship, the ambassador said China and Cambodia have become good neighbors like brothers, good friends with sincerity, and good partners sharing weal and woe.

The relationship between the two countries "could be seen as a model for nations to live together in harmony and cooperate for mutual benefits," Xiong said.

Keo Chhea, a professor at the University of Cambodia, said the lecture provided a good opportunity for the students to understand the CPC's core thoughts in politics, socio-economic development, and China's diplomacy with the rest of the world.

Before the lecture, Xiong attended the inauguration ceremony of the China Room, a facility for Chinese teaching at the University of Cambodia.
