TRIPOLI, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Libyan eastern-based House of Representatives, or the parliament, on Tuesday called for an immediate cease-fire in Warshaffana area in western Libya.

"The parliament agreed on Tuesday to assign its dialogue committee to communicate with the army and the interim government and demand an immediate cease-fire in Warshaffana," said parliament spokesman Abdullah Bilhag.

Bilhag also pointed that the parliament agreed, in a session on Tuesday, to "follow up the file of wanted persons in Warshaffana in a security manner by the competent security services and the Libyan Armed Forces."

The city of Aziziya, 30 km south of the capital Tripoli, has been witnessing military operations since last week by the forces of the UN-backed government to "eliminate crime in the area," a statement said.

The forces took control of the southern suburb of the city, forcing rival militants in the area to retreat further into the city, a military told Xinhua on Monday.

Prime Minister Fayez Serraj stressed keenness to work to spare the area of armed confrontations.

An armed group allied with the Government of National Accord in Tripoli, known as Tripoli Rebels Battalion, the largest military force of the government, expressed willingness to participate in any military actions in western Libya.

The eastern-based army warned of the continued attack by the forces of the Serraj's government on army sites and headquarters in Aziziya.
