Scottish Parliament building evacuated after suspect envelopes found

LONDON, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Discovery of suspicious packages have sparked the evacuation of the MSP building of the Scottish Parliament, the Scottish Parliament tweeted Tuesday.

The Sun reported that white powder was found after one of three similar envelopes believed to be sent to some Tory MSPs (members of the Scottish Parliament) was opened by a staff member.

The three envelopes appeared to be from the same sender, the report said.

MSPs (members of the Scottish Parliament) and staff fled Holyrood as emergency services raced to the scene after a suspicious package caused alarm was raised around 11:32 a.m. local time.

People were initially evacuated from the Tory floor of the four-story MSP block, followed by other floors.

The Scottish parliament further added that chamber business will go ahead as planned at the parliament Tuesday afternoon.
