TRIPOLI, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Monday expressed concerns over reports of attacks on civilian neighborhoods in Warshaffana area in western Tripoli.

"UNSMIL is concerned about reports of indiscriminate shellings in the residential areas of Warshaffana. The Mission reminds all parties of their legal obligations to ensure the protection of civilians," the Mission said on Facebook.

Although the UN-backed Government of National Accord in Tripoli denied issuing orders for any military action, forces allied with the Government have been conducting a military operation in the city of Aziziya, 30 km south of Tripoli, aiming at eliminating crime in the area.

The forces took control of the southern suburb of the city, forcing rival militants in the area to retreat further into the city, a military source told Xinhua earlier.

UN-backed Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Serraj stressed keenness to spare the area of armed confrontations.

An armed group allied with the Government of National Accord in Tripoli, known as Tripoli Rebels Battalion, the largest military force of the Government, expressed willingness to participate in any military actions in western Libya.

The eastern-based army warned of the continued attack by the forces of the Government on army sites and headquarters in Aziziya.
