PARIS, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday named the Goncourt-prize winning writer Leila Slimani as France's emissary for Francophone affairs.
Slimani was tasked of promoting the use of French language through an open Francophone Policy "focused on concrete projects related to the priorities of the President of the Republic such as education, culture, gender equality, professional integration and youth mobility, fight against climate change and digital development," the president's office said in a statement.
The French-Moroccan author won France's prestigious literary prize, the Goncourt, in 2016 with "Chanson douce" ("Sweet Song"), a novel that tells the story of a nurse who killed two kids that she was looking after.
