BUCHAREST, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Romania will on Wednesday organize a ministerial conference on energy cooperation within the China-Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) cooperation framework known as "16+1", it was announced Monday.

The conference, organized by Romania's Foreign Ministry and Energy Ministry in cooperation with the Centre for Dialogue and Cooperation on Energy Projects 16+1, will be followed by an energy fair taking place from Wednesday to Friday.

The two events are the first to be devoted to energy cooperation supported by the centre, set up in October 2016 as a contribution by Romania to the China-Central and Eastern Europe cooperation format.

"The main items on the agenda of the conference, to be attended by all the ministers and officials of the 16+1 countries, seek to identify common opportunities for developing cooperation on energy projects in the 16+1 format, taking into account regional dynamics, as well as current objectives and challenges in the area," the Romanian Foreign Ministry said.

"At the fair, 30 of the largest Chinese energy companies will be attending as well as companies from CEE countries," added the release.

The "16+1" mechanism is a platform created in April 2012 by China and 16 Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries.
