MONROVIA, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Liberia would delay its presidential election runoff, which was earlier slated for Nov. 7, an election official said Friday.
Henry Flomo, a spokesman of the National Elections Commission, said the delay was necessary following an order last Tuesday by the country's apex court that is hearing fraud claims by political parties contesting the results released for the first round of voting.
Speaking to reporters, Flomo said a new date would be announced after the Supreme Court had decided on the pending case.
Chief Justice Francis Korkpor of the Supreme Court said the court would give its decision on the fraud claims on Monday.
Opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) candidate George Weah, who is the front-runner, and vice president Joseph Boakai of the governing party were to take part in the run-off next Tuesday.
Weah, a former soccer star, is leading the presidential race with 38.4 percent of the vote to Boakai's 28.8 percent.
