NICOSIA, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- A boat with 175 Syrian refugees arrived on the northwestern coast of Cyprus after sailing from the southern Turkish city of Antalya, police said on Friday.

They were 81 men, 35 women and 59 children, among them a two-day old baby, a police statement said.

The new arrivals bring to over 1.000 the number of Syrian refugees who made the trip from Turkey to Cyprus this year.

The police said the boat was spotted in rough seas by radar a noon when about six kilometers off the coast.

A police patrol ship was sent to escort the boat to the nearest shore.

Authorities said Civil Defense Personnel and medical staff attended to the refugees before they were processed and led to a special camp.
