LUANDA, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Angolan senior men's football teams of 1º de Agosto and Petro de Luanda, national champions and runners-up of the first division championship (Girabola 2017), 27 years later, will again represent together the country in the competitions under the aegis of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in 2018.

In the CAF competitions, the last time the two clubs represented the country dates back to 1990. At the time, Petro de Luanda won their seventh Girabola title, while 1º de Agosto snatched the Angola Cup.

In 2018, 1º de Agosto will play the preliminary phase qualifiers for the group stage of the Africa Champions League, after winning its 11th title of the Girabola, while Petro will compete in the CAF Cup, due to its presence in the final of the Angola Cup.

On November 11, at Luanda's 11 de Novembro stadium, 1º de Agosto and Petro de Luanda will play the final of the Angola Cup, which marks the closing of the 2017 football season.

To reach the final, Petro de Luanda knocked out FC Bravos do Maquis in the semi-final, while 1º de Agosto eliminated Progresso do Sambizanga.

The last time Petro and 1º de Agosto faced each other in final of the Angola Cup was in 1998, a match won by 1º de Agosto by 4-1.

Should Petro beat their opponents in the final of Angola, it will save the 2017 football season.
