KAMPALA, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's football governing body has called for the resignation of the head of the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) arguing that he has failed to organize tournaments over the last two years.

Moses Magogo, president of Uganda Football Associations told Xinhua in an interview late on Wednesday that Sirelkhatim Mutasim Gafaar, president of CECAFA should step down.

Magogo said he has written a letter to the CECAFA Secretary General Nicholas Musonye calling for the resignation of Gaffar in the interest of the game.

"This is to officially express FUFA's position on the current governance challenge at CECAFA. Gafaar does not have the time for CECAFA and this has affected our aspirations and programs as members," the letter said.

The regional body last held the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup and the Club Championships in 2015. Last year Kenya, Sudan and Tanzania failed to host CECAFA competitions.

Magogo added that there should be an election of the entire executive of CECAFA.

Gafaar who is a committee member of the Confederation of African Football on Sunday failed to retain his position as president of the Sudan Football Association.

The regional body is expected to have elections for executive members ahead of the start of the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Kenya. The competition is expected to run Nov. 25 - Dec. 9.

CECAFA member nations include; Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia and Djibouti.
