BEIJING, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares closed mixed on Wednesday, partly weighed down by shares in home appliance companies.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index edged up 0.08 percent to close at 3,395.91 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.15 percent lower at 11,350.32 points.

Combined turnover rose to 481.84 billion yuan (72.7 billion U.S. dollars) from 431.9 billion yuan the previous trading day.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.16 percent to close at 1,872.75 points.

Shares of home appliance makers led the decline, with Gree Electric Appliances down 1.76 percent to 41.8 yuan and Wuxi Little Swan dropping 2.19 percent to 57.28 yuan.

Bucking the trend, shares related to chip-making gained as 16 of the 25 listed integrated circuit firms declared profit growth in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, shares of oil refineries also rose with China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation and PetroChina Company Ltd., two of the state-owned energy giants, rising 2.35 percent and 1.45 percent respectively.
