"Geostorm" tops Chinese box office

BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- "Geostorm," a sci-fi thriller starring Gerard Butler, dominated the Chinese film market during its debut week ending Oct. 29, earning 210 million yuan (31.6 million U.S. dollars), China Film News reported Tuesday.

"Kingsman: The Golden Circle" came in second with 144 million yuan last week at the box office. It has raked in more than 407 million yuan since hitting Chinese screens on Oct. 20.

Third place went to domestic comedy "Never Say Die," earning 81.3 million yuan last week. The film has taken in 2.11 billion yuan since its release on Sept. 30.

"Blade Runner: 2049" from Warner Bros. landed in fourth place, generating 47.8 million yuan in its debut week.

Rounding out the top five was Thai comedy "Bad Genius," which grossed more than 34.3 million yuan last week. It has made 251 million yuan since its release on Oct. 13.
