TIRANA, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Helidon Bendo, the current vice director of Albania's State Intelligence Service (SHISH) will be the new chief of this service, replacing Visho Ajazi Lika, Albanian prime minister's press office confirmed Tuesday.

Visho Ajazi Lika submitted Monday his unequivocal resignation to the Prime Minister Edi Rama, without giving details about the reasons that made him resign from the post he has held since 2012.

Later on, as local media reported, Rama sent the name of Helidon Bendo to the President of Republic, Ilir Meta in order to approve the appointment of Bendo as new chief of Albanian intelligence services.

Under the Albanian constitution, the Prime Minister proposes both the appointment and the dismissal of the chief of SHISH to the President.

Meanwhile, the mandate of the chief of the secret services is not limited to a set number of years and this is why political experts here considered Ajazi Lika's resignation as unexpected.
